All WeeTect photochromic lenses (WPLs) feature the WeeTect Photochromic Technology (WPT).

These lenses are designed with photochromic substrates that tint on exposure to UV radiation or high light intensity, otherwise, they maintain their clear state.

During the manufacturing process, WeeTect may either opt for photochromic coating or photochromic co-mold. Basically, these are the two WPT technologies WeeTect uses.

To improve efficiency and performance, WeeTect also incorporates a wide range of coatings such as: anti-fog, anti-scratch, anti-fingerprint, iridium and hydrophobic coating.

Since WeeTect introduced photochromic lenses this year, it has become popular in a number of applications such as safety glasses, cycling glasses, sunglasses, eyeglasses and safety goggles; just to mention a few.


Background Information

For more than two decades, WeeTect has been researching and developing a number of safety gears such as football helmet visors, motorcycle visors, hockey visors and auto Anti-fog Visor Insert .

In an attempt to provide better safety standards, WeeTect recently launched a new photochromic product – WeeTect Photochromic Lens.

Developing the WeeTect Photochromic Lens was actually part of the company’s efforts to expand its line of products.

A close look at this new lens reveals that, WeeTect has incorporated other technologies to enhance the performance of this lens.

I haven’t seen this in a number of photochromic lenses currently available in the market.

It is not just an ordinary photochromic lens that tints automatically when subjected to UV radiations and return to a clear state in the absence of the activating light.

Of course, this is the basic photochromic technology you will find on any website or online. Without any value added features it make no sense to me.

It does resist fogging, with the hydrophilic coating in the inner section of the lens.

The abrasion coating and anti-glare coatings are on the outer surface. Other options with hydrophobic coating are also available.

WeeTect prefers to use a hydrophobic coating on the outer surface to prevent dust and oil.

Basically, apart from conforming to the ISO, ASTM and CE standards; the product is manufactured to achieve high optical and performance standards.

This seems to be WeeTect’s tradition, going by the sample products such as anti-fog visors and IP cameras I have used and reviewed before.


This is not the half-baked photochromic lenses available in the market. I can see the manufacturing process is actually supported by strong R&D, besides innovative solutions.

Anyway, let’s go into specific details of the WeeTect photochromic lens. This will give you more insights about what I am talking about.

WeeTect Photochromic Lenses VS. Existing Photochromic Lenses

One unique approach that is quite evident in the WeeTect business model is their focus on the OEM market.

WeeTect Photochromic Lenses are actually competing with other products such as the Transitions Lenses. I have used Transitions lenses before and to be honest, they have never disappointed me.

Just like other human beings, I am always looking forward to try new products, which may have even the slightest benefit than what I have tried before.

Examining WeeTect Photochromic Lenses seem to add more value compared to other photochromic lenses.

As a company that strives to be a strong competitor of Transitions lenses; WeeTect has introduced a completely new approach to the entire process.


WeeTect adds more surface treatment to their photochromic lenses. These include hydrophilic anti-fog, anti-scratch, anti-fingerprint, anti-glare and hydrophobic anti-fog coating.

I realized this is a distinguishing aspect that can add more value to the competition.

I think such options produce versatile photochromic lenses that can be adopted to any practical application.

Thou the WeeTect Photochromic Lenses were introduced a few months ago, they seem to have better prospects in the market.


Another twist that I found amazing is the manufacturing approach where the company has actually adopted its unique technology – WeeTect Photochromic Technology.


The first approach is using photochromic coating and the substrate is injection molded on a polycarbonate lens. Secondly, it involved the use of a photochromic film or sheet, which is then co-molded.

My first tests (I will explain later) have actually proven that these new technologies are incredible. In fact, they can actually be applied to a wide range of applications.


Again, of greater interest is actually the price. For a reseller or OEM business; this is a crucial aspect to consider.

So far, the WeeTect pricing on these photochromic lenses I think is quite fair.

WeeTect Photochromic Quality And Performance

Based on the WeeTect Photochromic Lens samples I received, we conducted practical tests on every aspect that WeeTect highlighted in their product manual.

Of much interest to us were:

  1. VLT before photochromic tint
  2. VLT fully photochromic tint
  3. Fully photochromic tint time
  4. Change back to photochromic clear time
  5. Fog free time

Honestly, my fog test results were actually same as those Rick K. for webBikeWorld did for WeeTect anti-fog visor in August this year (2016).


So, when it comes to anti-fog solutions, I think WeeTect is really doing the best they can.


My sample had an anti-scratch and iridium coating. I did conduct a test for the two properties and they were satisfactory.

The lens is scratch resistant and reduces glare. Therefore, you won’t have any problems such as double vision at night.

I held the lens close to my eyes for approximately two minutes while indoors. When still holding the lens in the same position, I walked outdoors stayed for about 20 minutes then back indoors again.

Another test was to move under a parking garage (shade), which was still outdoors, but with a reduced light intensity.

The results were incredible as the lens, tinted depending on the variation in the UV or sunlight intensity.

Actually the photochromic lens changed “smoothly” from clear to fully tint then from fully tinted to clear.

Actually WeeTect Photochromic lens is designed to tint automatically and quickly on exposure to UV radiation. Basically, I consider this an important safety measure.

I did conduct the BPC300 Photochromic Lens Testing, to ascertain WeeTect photochromic lens spectral transmission. Here too, it didn’t disappoint.

As of now, I think WeeTect Photochromic Lens meets the performance expectations of most applications such as motorcycle or sporting activities.

Again, this is the first photochromic product the company has introduced in the market, I believe the company is still planning on even better performance features.

We’ll be waiting to see what they have for us.


Clearly, WeeTect Photochromic Lens is a versatile product that offers unlimited options to OEM clients.

Again, WeeTect is yet to be clear about the cost of the photochromic lenses that include all possible coating options that enhance performance.

Still, I will be looking forward to see WeeTect unveil more photochromic lens designs before the end of the year.
